Follow the steps of the PROBLEM SOLVING FRAMEWORK:
1. Restate the problem (in words that make sense to you)
2. Choose a strategy
3. Use the strategy to solve the problem
4. Go back and check

What are PROBLEM SOLVING STRATEGIES?
ReplyDeleteDescribe some "MATH TALK prompts" that we use in our class.
ReplyDeleteHow do MATH TALK prompts help you to communicate with others about math problems?
ReplyDeleteSome of the math talk prompts are "I would like to build on that idea because..." and " I agree or disagree because...". Those are some of the math talk prompts.
ReplyDeleteSome Math Talk Prompts are:
ReplyDelete* Build on " I would like to build on that idea..."
* Agree with Reasons " I agree/disagree because..."
" I would like to build on that idea..."
ReplyDeletesome math promps are , i agree * i disagree , i would like to build on this idea , wait till people are done talking * try 5 seconds ,
ReplyDeletethose are some math talk promps you could you

ReplyDeleteExample:Using an example can help communicate ideas by creating a citeria that can help you and others understand a problem.
ReplyDeleteBuliding on an Idea:This helps others understand what improvements that they can make to their answers or the way they solve the problem.
Math prompts can help you by helping you start a math sentence.
ReplyDeleteWhat is a math prompt ?
ReplyDeleteA math promt is strategys, how you solve a problem.
-I would like to build on that idea because ....
-I agree because.....
-I disagree because....
-Kirsten
Explain
ReplyDeleteThis is my solution/stragy...
Agree with my reason:
"I agree because..."
Disagree with reason:
" I disagree because..."
The "math prompts" posters are very useful in group work. I think that the math prompt wich states wait five seconds to think about what someone says before stating your own oppinion, is one that I have struggled with in the past. Having the posters around have actually taught me something about real life. I have improved in almost every subject and it was all because I had those posters to remide me of the "BIG" things that we learn at this age.The poster witchstates focus on the problem, understand is a huge point, if you don't foucus then your work will be incomleat and you will fall behind. You will not understand the things that you are to do.All of these posters have a good meaning and that meaning is to help us as students to how to communicate well and efficiantly. These things are huge in our math program so I strongly recomend taking the time to check all five out.
ReplyDeletejulie and I , justice, think some of the math talk prompts are:::
ReplyDeleteexplain:
this is my solution/strategy...
I think _________ is trying to say...
I would like to add on to what he/she is saying...
Math talk prompts help you to understand what others are thinking about, what you are doing with your math and it helps you to communicate with your group in a nicer way so you don't get off track by fighting.
what is a math prompts?
ReplyDeleteA math prompts are stratagys that help you with your work.
How do they help?
They help you by making the qestion easer for you.
what did thet do to help
ReplyDeletemath talk helps me because instead of saying thats not right or something rude you can build on what they say like......I think she is trying to say is...!
ReplyDeleteDo you thimk it is possable for an average person to watch 1 000 000 hours of tv in a life time?
ReplyDeleteNo, it is not possable for an average person to watch 1 000 000 hours of t.v. in a life time. And this is why...
1 ooo ooo(the hours) divided by 90(about a life time) equels 11111.11111.
So it is not possable for an average person to watch 1 000 000 hours of television in a life time. They can only watch 11111.11111 hours of t.v. (By: Mara♥)
Say you have a question like; Is it possible to watch 1000,000 hours of tv in a life time?
ReplyDeleteSo you have to restate the problem like; Is it possible to watch 1,000,000 hours of t.v in a life time?
Afterwards you have to choose a strategy like; using a t-chart or using another like mental math. (which is a little tough)
Then you have to Use the statagy that you chose and use it to figure out the problem.
So 1,000,000 divided by 100 yrs of life = 10,000 ten thousand x 100 = 1,000,000
So of course the answer is no you can not. It's impossible.
problem: is it possible to watch 1 000 000 hour of tv? STATERGE:it would be to divide 1000 000 by 100=10000x100=100 000 so it is impossible to watch 1000000of tv because you cant live that long
